Our History

In 1973 Israel and Ruhama, a banker and a teacher, together with the baby Amit, came to Ein-Yahav. In the wasteland of the desert, with their four hands and a communal tractor, they have begun learning how to produce from the land vegetables with a heavenly taste.

With the help of agricultural research and development team we progressed in every aspect of growing crops:

  • Instead of irrigation sprinklers we use drip irrigation.
  • From growing low-lying crops in open fields we moved on to growing tied-up crops in controlled green houses.
  • After being a diverse crop farm which produces ten varieties of crops all year around, we now specialise in specific crops for export.
  • Our crop farm that was based on independent work of family members and the occasional help of European volunteers, whom we accommodated in our home, became a farm which hires permanent and professional Thai workers who enjoy appropriate work conditions, payment and treatment.

In 1998 Amit and Sagit, a press photographer and a school principal, returned with their baby daughter to live in the Arava, and built their crop farm in the nearby moshav, Hatzeva. Since we had 50 dunams (12.5 acres) of virgin land, and because of the growing European demand for organic produce, Amit took professional trainings and we have built an organic crop farm that meets strict standards and is under constant supervision.

Over the years we have elaborated the crop farm: We introduced to the greenhouses climate control, cooling and heating systems; we built accommodation complex for the staff, an advanced packing house and cooling systems that create a cooling chain for the produce from the washing to loading into the cooled container.

Doron, who in the past has worked with his father in the crop farm, married Monika and purchased an additional crop farm in Ein-Yahav.

Together they have specialised in organic agriculture, built greenhouses, and since then they think, live and breathe - agriculture.
